Mapplewell Mavericks Under 9s Girls

Away game on Sunday 28th January 2007 kick off 11.30am
Ellie Smith of the Mavericks opened the game with her fourth goal of the season, with Hebden Bridge equalising just before half time.
The second half kicked off with Lydia Wilson of the Mavericks scoring to bring the score to 2-1, shortly after Hebden Bridge scored to make it level, then they fired another one in to put them in front just before the end of normal time.
In injury time Lydia Wilson fired another fine goal in to make it 3-3, but Lydia wasn’t done just after they kicked off another goal to get her the girl of the match and a fantastic hatrick plus the 3 points 4-3, a great team performance well done to the girls.

U14: Mavericks 1 AFC Beeches 0

A fantastic all round team performance saw the Mavericks take all three points from this tough encounter. A strong wind made it difficult for both teams but the Mavericks created a number of chances in the first half with Jake Blackburn, Jamie Sutton and Liam Kenny all coming close. Both defences though were on top for most of the game with Jamie Shirtliff, Thomas Gibson, Scott Briscoe and Nathan Kay playing excellently throughout the game.

The second half saw Beeches make use of the wind but the Mavericks midfield of Rikki Paylor, Joe Powell and man of the match Cristo Cicero held firm and gave Beeches little chance. Then in the last minute of the game Jamie Sutton played Jake Blackburn through on goal who battled with the defender to fire his shot past the helpless keeper to give the Mavericks all three points.

U13: Mavericks 5 Kirkthorpe Cougars 3

The Mavericks continued their winning ways with a superb display at home to Kirkthorpe Cougars. The Mavericks found themselves in front after only 4 minutes through Callum Hewitt who latched onto a ball from Jack Hattersley and duly slotted past the keeper. Both teams battled hard but it was the Mavericks who went further ahead on 19 minutes with a fine individual effort from Ashley Smith.Kirkthorpe managed to pull a goal back 9 minutes later, but the Mavericks restored their 2 goal lead on the stroke of half time when Jack Hattersley sent Ashley Smith through on goal. The Mavericks went in at half time leading 3 - 1.

Kirkthorpe came out in the second half and scored 2 goals to draw level within 10 minutes of the restart. The Mavericks took the game by the scruff of the neck and with less than 5 minutes to go Nathan Wright pumped a ball into the box for Matthew Elvin who netted at close range. The Mavericks sealed a fine victory when in the last minute of the game Jack Hattersley found man of the match Ashley Smith who sealed his hat trick with a fine strike. The Mavericks ran out 5 - 3 winners.

U8: Mavericks 7 Mexborough 3 (Agg)

Mapplewell maintained their position at the top of the league

MAPPLEWELL 5 MEXBOROUGH 1
after 2 fine results against there nearest rivals Mexborough in atrocious conditions.
In the first game mappewell were soon on the attack forcing Mexborough on the back foot , chances went begging for the mavericks to take the lead.
against the run of play the mavericks found themselves falling behind when hesitency in defence lead to the unfortunate Connor Bond put the ball into his own net when trying to clear the danger. It didn"t take long for the eqauliser to come from the impressive Thomas clare . The Mavericks raised
their game from this point and put Mexborough under relentless pressure ,
with mexborough finding it hard to contain them further goals followed from Thomas Clare ,2 goals from the magnificent Owen wildblood ,and man of the match Thomas Clare completing his hat trick .

MAPPLEWELL 2 MEXBOROUGH 2
In the second game Mapplewell found themselves trailing again against a lively mexborough team ,Mapplewell gradually found there rythemand a fine long range effort from the tireless Zak Dawson found the back of the Mexborough net to bring them level. Good footbalj was now being played by both teams in what was now becoming a mud bath.Mapplewell took the lead with a fine finish from Zak Dawson from the edge of the box with his unfavoured left foot.Chances went begging for the mavericks to finish the game off.Towards the end Mexborough broke free from what had been a solid defence and equalised when the unfortunate Jack Naylor parried a shot onto the post and deemed to have gone in before he could get hold of it . man of the match Sam Rolph

Come on Mavericks !!!!

U13: Mavericks 3 Mexborough Main Street 0

After defeat last week at home to Brackenhill Blues it was back to winning ways for the Mavericks. The Mavericks had all the early play but could not convert the chances they created. But in the 35th minute and on the stroke of half time a fine pass from Kevin Dryden found Callum Hewitt who put the ball past the advancing keeper to give the Mavericks a one nil lead.Six minutes after the restart the Mavericks doubled their lead when Callum Hewitt again found the back of the net.

The visitors fought back but couldnt find a way past a very solid Mavericks defence. The game was put beyond all doubt when Ashley Smith slotted home in the 66th minute to make it three nil to the home team. Man of the match for the Mavericks was Thomas Jackson.

U14: Mavericks 1 Ardsley Athletic 4

The Mavericks started well after a Rikki Paylor free kick was almost converted by a header from Cristo Cicero but Niall Pattison-Linighan drove home the rebound. Ardsley responded with a wonder strike but the game was tight with both defences on top. Man of the match Thomas Gibson helped keep Ardsley at bay and if chances had been taken the Mavericks could have been in the lead. Before half time Ardsley grabbed a second to give them the lead.

The Mavericks pushed for the equaliser in the second half but were unable to convert chances into goals. Ardsley finished the game stronger and left with all three points from this tough battle.

U14: Nostell Juniors 0 Mavericks 3

The Mavericks progressed through to the Quarter Finals of the Cup with an outstanding team performance against Nostell Juniors. The first half was dominated by a gale force wind against the Mavericks but the whole team stuck together and battled superbly. The Mavericks defense of Jamie Shirtliff, Thomas Gibson, Nathan Kay and Scott Briscoe were outstanding in preventing Nostell attacking the Mavericks goal. After ten minutes only a superb save from Jack Unsworth prevented Nostell from opening the scoring. The Mavericks broke the dead lock on 13 minutes when a Rikki Paylor free kick caused chaos in the Nostell penalty area and Cristo Cicero scrambled home from close range. The Mavericks continued to hold Nostell in the strong wind with the Mavericks midfield of Rikki Paylor, Cristo Cicero and man of the match Joe Powell tackling like tigers. Then in the closing minutes of the first half a pass from Matthew Hilton sent Jamie Sutton towards goal and a fine run and shot gave the keeper no chance.

The Mavericks dominated the second half and gave Nostell little chance to get back into the game. Jake Blackburn, Liam Kenny and Levi Szucs all came close to scoring but Jake Frid put the game beyond doubt when he headed home a Scott Briscoe throw in to give the Mavericks a well deserved 3-0 victory.

U11: Mavericks 3 Prospect Juniors 2

An excellent team performance sent Mapplewell Mavericks Girls to top of the league. A close start to the game saw the away team take an early lead but a fine strike from Danielle Green put the Mavericks back level. The Mavericks defense lead by Briony Hudson and Toni Whitehouse kept the visitors at bay. Olivia McDaid provided an excellent pass to Green who powered passed the helpless keeper to make it 2-1. A superb display from Girl of the Match and keeper Hayley Smith kept the Mavericks on top. The visitors scored late on to make it 2-2 but the Mavericks continued to push for the win and in the dying minutes some excellent play from Lucy Erskine saw her slot the ball into back of the net to give the Mavericks well deserved 3-2 victory over a strong Prospect team.

U14: Mavericks 5 Ward Green 3

The Mavericks gained a vital victory against Ward Green after a superb team performance. Without a recognised goalkeeper the Mavericks defence worked tirelessly but Ward Green took a 1-0 lead into the break. Within 45 seconds l fine pass from man of the match Nile Pattison-Linighan sent Jake Blackburn clear to fire home the equaliser. Then 30 seconds later Jamie Sutton was brought down in the box and Rikki Paylor coolly fired home the penalty. The Mavericks continued to dominate and added to the goals minutes later when Cristo Cicero sent Sutton clear to make it 3-1. Again a Pattison-Linighan pass produced another goal with an excellent run and shot from Sutton to grab his second of the game. The Mavericks s scoring was complete when a Thomas Gibson free kick was put away with a bullet header from James Shirtliff. Ward Green grab two late consolation goals and the Mavericks ran out 5-3 winners in this important local derby.
